BACHELORS OF SCIENCE IN ARCHITECTURE 2021
THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 01: CONTEXTUAL STUDY SKETCH JOURNAL OF A TRADITIONAL STREET
As part of this assignment, we were to conduct research and assess how the architecture of a particular traditional Malaysian street related to its social, cultural, and intellectual background as well as determine the key "lexicons" of the street through its visual and aural components. In this case, I've selected the central Kuala Lumpur location of jalan tun hs lee as my research location
REFLECTION
After completion the assignment, I was able to identify both the tangible and intangible contexts of jalan tun hs lee through a virtual site visit, which allowed me to understand the unique historical characteristics of the area. After that, I was able to decipher both the established meaning and the location identity, which made me realise how crucial it is to preserve the historic streets that give our nation its distinct identity. In my situation, it is unfortunate to witness jalan Tun Hs Lee's splendour eroding with time owing to a lack of measures made to preserve the history, but I am grateful and happy to have the chance to learn about it
ASSIGNMENT : INFOGRAPHIC
We must produce an infographic poster for this assignment to show that we understand conventional and vernacular architecture based on the lectures we have heard. I've decided to study Traditional Chinese Architecture in this situation. We were required to gather, examine, and assess the knowledge that was supplied to us in the lectures before assembling text and illustrations in an organised manner to present our research.
REFLECTION
I've learned from this assignment how to gather, arrange, and present my infographic-based research of the historical evolution of vernacular Chinese architecture to its original setting. After finishing, I have gained understanding of the subject at hand. In addition, I enjoyed creating the overall layout. Planning and organising everything while effectively presenting the information is difficult. Even though mine is imperfect, it gives me good practise for learning more about designing layouts
PROJECT 2: POSTER AND SEMINAR-CONTEMPORARY ISSUES AND ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
In order to complete this project, each of us must work in a group of seven, identify important concerns based on Project 1's observations, and then continue our investigation before deciding on a specific area of study. We were required to produce a thorough grasp of tradition, modernism, and globalisation in the Asian architectural environment to which we have chosen jalan tun hs lee during our study and group discussions. The results of our study will subsequently be gathered in a research poster and presented in a film.
REFLECTION
After finishing this assignment, I gained knowledge on how to create a research poster with particular standards, such as writing an abstract and including methodology, research findings, and so on. Since this is a group assignment, I believe that each group member's participation is essential and critical to deciding the success of project completion. I'm appreciative of my highly capable group members who have done their best and supported one another whenever we needed it. We made quick progress and finished everything on schedule thanks to the task delegation and cooperation of the group members.I am particularly appreciative of Mr. Koh, our tutor, who has helped us along the road and has been especially helpful with the writing portion because it is our first time creating an appropriate research framework. Overall, I've gained a lot of knowledge about conducting research and effectively presenting that knowledge through verbal communication.
